Riddhi Sen is on cloud nine and why not! His dream project, the
short film
‘
COLDFIRE
’ which was screened at the 26th Kolkata International Film Festival recently is about to start its festival journey abroad. The short film has been selected at the Madrid Asia International Film Festival.
Riddhi's directorial debut is an adaptation of
Nabarun Bhattacharya
's short story of the same name. In 2029, a global real estate tycoon Mr. K.P. Sarkar (
Kaushik Sen) comes across a salesman named G.B. (Somak Ghosh) who wants to sell a mysterious gadget called ‘Coldfire’. It’s a gadget that has been invented to improve and make funerals exclusive for the upper classes of the society. Riddhi says ‘COLDFIRE’ is a dystopian dark comedy that talks about the unending class struggle in our society that has been going on for decades.
“I read the short story when I was very young and wanted to work on it. In 2017, my maternal grandfather passed away and it was my first visit to a crematorium. My life changed after that and it was that moment when I was absolutely sure about making this film,” Riddhi had told us earlier while speaking about the short.
