Mainak says the idea was to give a light-hearted film that people can relate to amid all the negativities.
“Just imagine you grow up and suddenly find out your mother is a little cooler than you? Sounds funny right? It can end up in fights even. That’s what I want to show through this film. You can call it a celebration of a mother-daughter relationship. Christmas is that time when we cherish memories and while celebration is on, so it’s quite relatable where we are heading as this film encompasses the elements of varied human emotions, it can be love, anger or humour,” shares the filmmaker in an exclusive chat with ETimes.

Actress Aparajita Adhya who plays the carefree mother in the film has impressed the director immensely and he’s super happy to work with the versatile actress. The film also stars Sourav Das as Aditi’s boyfriend.
“It is such a pleasure to work with Aparajita Adhya as she effortlessly fits in any kind of role. Madhumita and Saurav (Das) have also done super job playing their characters. I hope people enjoy the film,” adds Mainak.
‘Cheeni’ will hit the theatres on December 24.
