Infamous celebrity feuds we’ll never forget

Celebrity feuds! We may not admit it but we all love to hear about some good celebrity conflict (perhaps even more than a good celebrity love story!) and there has been no shortage of such incidents in the recent past, with plenty of harsh words, social media fights, and even heated conversations. These unpleasant incidents have had even our biggest stars embroiled in heated exchanges. Whether on set, in public or on the good old internet – it all happened. Read on…

Swastika Mukherjee – Sreelekha Mitra

It all started when actress Sreelekha Mitra spoke about nepotism in Tollywood in an explosive video and revealed how she missed a lot of lead roles because of favouritism. To this, Swastika, without mentioning anyone’s name in her Facebook post, dropped a bomb to counter Sreelekha’s allegations. Her Facebook post starts with saying, “I having a small question.” Then, she elaborates when an actress does one or more than one film with the same director, it’s generally believed she has grabbed the offer by “sleeping with the director.” “So, I have worked with a filmmaker who has made 17 films but I have done only two-and-a-half-movies with him,” Swastika mentioned in her post. The ‘Kia And Kosmos’ actress added cinematographer Soumik Haldar has done 11 films, Prosenjit Chatterjee and Jisshu Sengupta have been part of 7 films, Anirban Bhattacharya and Parambrata Chatterjee in 6 films and music composer Anupam Roy in 9 films with the same filmmaker. The director in question here is Srijit Mukherji and Swastika has played crucial roles in his ‘Shah Jahan Regency’, ‘Jaatishwar’ and ‘Mishawr Rawhoshyo’. And then the actress drops the bomb! She asks, if that’s the case, then all these men are “bisexual” or “opportunist”. “The rule should be same for all. Or else, to hide the fallacy, slut shaming is done to those actresses only who can’t act at all,” Swastika concluded the post.

Jisshu Sengupta – Srijit Mukherji.

The Srijit-Jisshu fallout may have something to do with reports that the filmmaker has been accused of being rather harsh to his actors on the sets. Srijit does not disagree. Without naming the actor with whom he seemed to have crossed swords, the director once said in an interview that Gone are the days when an actor could turn up to shoot unprepared and get away with it, because his/her name and photos would appear on posters and they were close to the director. Many believe that Jisshu might have opted out of Srijit’s film on Chaitanyadev because of this feud.

Rupanjana Mitra – Arindam Sil

The #metoo wave entered the Bengali film industry in 2020 when popular actor Rupanjana Mitra brought shocking allegations of sexual misconduct against renowned filmmaker Arindam Sil. In an interview, the actor revealed how the filmmaker behaved inappropriately with her after calling the actor in his Kolkata office for the reading of the script for a popular daily soap, Bhumikanya. This created a huge uproar and Arindam denied all the allegations. However, the war of words continued for days.

5/7

Mimi Chakraborty – Nussrat Jahan.

They were once the leading example of how friendship thrives even in a cut-throat competition in the entertainment industry. Mimi and Nussrat used to be BFFs giving major friendship goals. However, post 2020 things changed slightly. They were allegedly not that close anymore and a rift reported surfaced between the two actors. However, neither Mimi nor Nussrat spoke anything about it in public but it was clear they were no more BFFs. Although a cordial relationship still exists between the two and they often exchange good wishes and compliments on social media rumours of a feud didn’t die down.

6/7

Prosenjit Chatterjee – Rituparna Sengupta.

They created undoubtedly one of the most iconic reel life pairs of Tollywood - the ever-charismatic duo Prosenjit Chatterjee and Rituparna Sengupta. The phenomenal actors Prosenjit and Rituparna used to rule over a million hearts in the 90s with their star power and cinematic chemistry that defined a new era in Bengali cinema. Though they preferred to keep their personal lives away from limelight, the duo often created headlines and rumours were high that they allegedly dated each other. However, after delivering multiple hit films together, Prosenjit and Rituparna parted ways after the 2002 film ‘Streer Maryada’ due to some unknown reason. Many speculated that all was not well between the two and the pair decided they will never work together. However, after 15 years, in 2016 the iconic pair made a comeback with ‘Praktan’. The film garnered huge love and appreciation from audiences and they were again cast opposite each other in Kaushik Ganguly’s ‘Drishtikone’ in 2018.

7/7

Sreelekha Mitra – Prosenjit Chatterjee

It all started in 2020 when actress Sreelekha Mitra spoke about nepotism in Tollywood in an explosive video. Sreelekha in her YouTube video alleged during the 90s and early 2000s she wasn’t given lead roles in films because Prosenjit Chatterjee and Rituparna Sengupta were in love. So, Sreelekha had to play either Prosenjit’s sister or the second lead in most of the films despite having all the qualities to play the female lead. Sreelekha also alleged that she couldn’t make any pair with any leading men from the film industry because she never fell in love with any of them off screen unlike the others. She also alleged that Prosenjit used to control the industry once and all filmmakers used to pacify him.
