The veteran director's close associate, Shuvro Roy says his film, SubhoMukti, is not a biopic.Gritty, upright and stubborn in parts. Those who are well acquainted with GoutamGhose
, know that the director is all these and much more. Now, Ghose's
character traits have inspired a role in his longtime associate Shuvro
Roy's film, SubhoMukti. The film revolves around Gagan Sen an acclaimed director who calls a spade a spade.
Not one to compromise in a world driven by commercialism, he gives up on filmmaking. That's when a young docu
maker comes to learn the technicalities of making a movie from Gagan. Together, they face the hardships, bringing in several twists and turns in the story. Interestingly , the similarities between Ghose
and Gagan
are aplenty. Keeping his Bangladesh connect in mind, the film will also see a girl coming from the neighbouring
country to do research on him. However, the director is clear about one thing: this film isn't a biopic
. Shuvro
, who worked as an editor on Kaalbela and ShunyoAwnko, and knows Ghose
for nine years now, says, My first work with Goutamda
was as an associate editor in Yatra. After that, I've edited two of his features and at least 50 of his docus
. This film, in no way, is Goutamda's
life story. But having known him for years, the character is somewhat inspired by him. My understanding of Goutamda
has enabled me to etch out the character well. I remember spending a lot of time with him in Mumbai, where we even cooked together. Few know that he is a brilliant cook. Gagan
Sen will have many such characteristics."A source close to the unit, who spotted the similarities for us, says Ghose
has been approached to get under the skin of his reel avatar Gagan
Sen though the veteran director denied doing the movie. Casting is on for the rest of the characters. Scripted by Shuvro
himself, the film is likely to hit the floors by January 2015.SIMILARITIESGhose is upright and doesn't mind speaking his mind; so does Gagan
