Actor Nusrat Jahan, who is also the Trinamool Congress MP from Barishat, has publicly denied her involvement in fraudulent practices, an allegation made by a group of senior citizens. They claimed that a real estate company, with Jahan as one of its directors, swindled them out of several crores of rupees by promising to deliver flats in New Town, Kolkata.

Jahan spoke to the media to set the record straight on these accusations. She stated that she severed her ties with the Seven Sense Infrastructure company on March 1, 2017, and has had no connection with the company since. Jahan further clarified that she does not own any stake in the company. She explained that she borrowed Rs 1.16 crore from the company to purchase her house and paid it back with interest (Rs 1.42 crore) on May 6, 2017. Her bank statements, she said, would confirm this, making it clear that the allegation of using public money for personal gain was incorrect.

The actor-turned-politician refused to discuss the matter further, noting that it was pending before a court, and abruptly left the press conference.

For the unversed, the group of aggrieved senior citizens filed a complaint with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday evening. They alleged that the company had entered into an agreement with 429 members, mostly retired bank employees, in 2014 to provide 3BHK flats through a cooperative society near Eco Park in New Town.

BJP leader Shankudeb Panda, who facilitated the complaint with the ED, alleged that the company collected around Rs 24 crore from the investors but failed to deliver the apartments. Among the documents submitted to the ED, Panda claimed that papers showing the Trinamul MP as one of the company's directors were included. These allegations have drawn considerable attention, leading to the ongoing investigation and legal proceedings.
