On this Poila Boishakh, let’s pray for our own well-being: Mimi Chakraborty

Mimi Chakraborty will be spending this

on the shooting floors and has nothing planned for the occasion. “But I am sure we will plan something impromptu on the sets,” she says. However, the actress will wear new clothes to the sets for sure. “Wearing new clothes on

is our family tradition that I’ve been following religiously since childhood. Now, I get new clothes for everyone in my family, including my staff. I used to get two new dresses on Poila Boishakh – one by Ma, which I used to wear in the evening. Mama gifted the other one, and I used to wear it in the morning,” recalls Mimi.

Poila Boishakh brings in a lot of hope
The actress has also kept a puja at home on the auspicious occasion this year. “I want to start the new year with blessings from the almighty. Poila Boishakh brings in a lot of hope for all of us,” she says. “It is a day when we pray for a better year ahead and wish the same for our loved ones. I think we all have gone through a lot in the last two years, so this Poila Boishakh, let’s pray for our own well-being too,” she says.

Mimi, along with her sister, grew up in Jalpaiguri where they would have a gala Poila Boishakh celebration every year. “Poila Boishakh marks the traditional accounting new year too. So, we used to have a puja (haalkhata) at my mamar bari where my sister and I would cut fruits for the puja, organise the flowers, and distribute prasad in our para. After the puja, we would feast on traditional delicacies. Didu used to cook pulao, mutton and aamer chutney, and all the relatives would sit together and have lunch served on banana leaves. In the evening, Ma took me out for cold drinks and sweets. During those days, my agenda on Poila Boishakh was to collect as many sweet packets and calendars as possible, so that I could make my cousins jealous by flaunting them,” Mimi adds with a smile.

For Mimi Chakraborty, wearing an ethnic outfit is a must on Naboborsho. Last year, she wore a traditional lal paar shada sari and this year she wanted to opt for an ethnic yet contemporary look with minimalistic makeup and jewellery. “So, I chose to wear a grey georgette Benarasi with embroidered border. I am pairing it up with a velvet bralette in the same colour for that easy-breezy look,” she tells us.
Keeping the weather in mind, Mimi has tied up her hair to make a neat bun and kept the makeup minimum. “The small bindi is adding a dimension to the whole look. Don’t forget to use sunscreen and use waterproof kajal, mascara and lipstick so that it doesn’t smudge. Wear light fabrics in pastel shades to beat the heat this Poila Boishakh,” she adds.
