Proud moment for team ‘Mahalaya’
Soumik Sen’s first Bengali directorial ‘Mahalaya’ which released earlier this year received an overwhelming response from the audience and it leaves Prosenjit Chatterjee, the producer of ‘Mahalaya’, in a happy space.
Now the period drama has been named an official selection at the 9th Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival. Prosenjit himself took to his Twitter handle to share the good news.
1x1 polls
‘Mahalaya’, written and directed by Soumik Sen, sheds light on the developments of 1976, after Akashvani Kolkata decided to replace Birendra Krishna Bhadra with Uttam Kumar in the hugely popular radio show 'Mahisasuramardini'. The move led to a massive public outrage in Bengal and Bhadra was ultimately reinstated.
When a movie speaks about not one but many legends of a culturally enriched society, you have to go for a topnotch cast and the ensemble cast of ‘Mahalaya’ doesn't disappoint us at all. It was great to see Jisshu Sengupta as Uttam Kumar and Subhasish Mukherjee as Birendra Krishna Bhadra.
Well, criticism will be inevitable given the Bengali sentiment but both of them are acting powerhouses, so it's top class performance as usual. Subhomoy Chatterjee was seen as Pankaj Mullick. Interestingly, besides producing the movie, Prosenjit Chatterjee’s voice can be heard throughout the film as the one narrating the story.
