Raj Chakrabarty
lodged a
complaint
about a
fraud
at the
Kasba police station
on Saturday. According to the director, two men and a woman had posed as employees of his production house and tried extracting money from a few parents, promising their children meaty roles in Raj’s serials and films. They allegedly demanded anything between Rs 50,000 to one lakh from the parents.
“Cybercrime is going to a different level and more so, after the pandemic and the ensuing lockdown. People are losing jobs and are resorting to any means to earn a living. Thank god that one of the parents became suspicious before making the payment and called us. That’s when the whole story came to light. The suspects have been arrested and I’m sure more action will be taken by the Kolkata Police soon,” said Raj.
The director went on to add that a person had once opened a
Facebook account
in his name and also got one lakh followers. “Naturally, people believed it was me and that person used to chat with girls posing as me. Later, a friend asked me whether I had sent an indecent chat to someone and I was zapped! That’s when we came to know about the fake account and action was taken immediately,” he revealed.
