In Shab, Simon plays a French expat, Benoit, living in Delhi and working as a bartender. He is also Arpita's close friend and confidant in the film. Simon will be flown in from Paris three times as Onir plans to shoot the movie over four seasons.
Says the director, I needed a French character and liked Simon at one go. With the world becoming a global village, I see a new trend emerging. Earlier, Indians would work abroad. Now, a lot of foreigners work in India. Delhi, in particular, is known for its cosmo population. My film is a reflection of this new India."
The director says Simon is a perfect combination of boyish charm and gentleness, which is essential for the character. He is a very good actor, whose films have travelled to international festivals. Also, when you have foreign actors working with you, newer avenues open up in terms of international distribution. With the world now coming to India, I want to showcase my film on a global platform."
