Atanu Ghosh prefers to call his three films, ‘

’, a trilogy of self-discovery. The last one which is releasing tomorrow (December 27) revolves around Asimabha and Sayoni who were closely connected but broke up 15 years back, never intending to meet again. They bump into each other one Sunday morning and destiny makes them go through a day of chaos, intrigue and surprise. The plot is a curious interplay of conflict, deceit and disbelief. Here we have summed up five reasons to include this film to your weekend watchlist.

A fresh pair, two acting powerhouses

Prosenjit Chatterjee and Jaya Ahsan are two of biggest names of Bengal and Bangladesh and finally they have come together for Atanu Ghosh’s next ‘Robibaar’. This isn’t the film’s only USP, after the huge success of Mayurakshi this is also the first time Prosenjit working with Atanu Ghosh.

The emotional turmoil

The teaser of Atanu Ghosh’s next ‘Robibaar’ has already promised to deliver a shady tale of relationship. It starts with Prosenjit Chatterjee’s angry rant in front of a mirror and then he punches it. In the next scene, we get to see Jaya Ahsan pointing out his attitude as she recalls their past, which was marred with bursting into fierce fits often. Interestingly, Ahsan seems a lot more calm and composed than Prosenjit.

In ‘Robibaar’, Prosenjit and Jaya Ahsan will be seen as an estranged couple Asimabha and Sayoni, who got separated in bitterness years ago. However, they come across each other on a Sunday (Robibaar) after a long gap. Both Asimabha and Sayoni try to delve deep into their own lives through self-assessments. While it is quite clear that Prosenjit’s character Asimabha has retained his previous traits, Sayoni has traveled a long way.

A trilogy close to Atanu Ghosh’s heart

The teaser is the right mixture of love, hatred and deceit. The important line where Prosenjit says- ‘Ami bhalo nei, ekdom bhalo nei!’ is the backbone of all my three films Mayurakshi, Binisutoy and Robibaar - where we all are not happy and looking for happiness in some form or the other.

Journey of self discovery

For quite some time, I wanted to make a set of films on self-discovery, with Kolkata as the backdrop. The aim was to capture the urban middle class in light and shadows and their tryst with changing times and perspective. The human mind has always been my favourite hunting ground. So, each of these films has two protagonists going through a crisis, and they seek solace in each other’s stories through a journey of self-discovery,” explains National Award winning director Atanu Ghosh.
