Rukmini Sircar
who is making her debut in ‘
Katti Nrittam
’ has impressed everyone with her stellar performance and independent filmmaker
Aneek Chaudhuri
who is donning the director’s hat for the multilingual film is all praise for the actor.
After auditioning a long list of actors from National School of Drama (NSD), Aneek was finally convinced with Rukmini playing the part. The film is to enter its last league of shooting in December.
In ‘Katti Nrittam’ (Knife Dance), Rukmini plays the character of a lesbian girl who is confined within the walls of a dilapidated world. She lives in a society which is highly patriarchal; hence, she faces a lot in order to live a free life. Beside this film, Rukmini will next be seen in the play ‘Ragupati’ directed by Anjan Dutta.
According to Aneek, “I must say that she is one of the finest actors I have worked with. And I won’t be surprised if she turns out to be in my upcoming projects as well. She is a dedicated person and a director's actor; I must also add that she does her homework coming on to the floors. She has been receptive as well as contributing to the development of the script. Most importantly, she knows how to avoid distractions while shooting amidst a crowd. This is indeed very important when it comes to shooting realistic films at real places.”
Katti Nrittam is a Malayalam feature length film shot in Bengal and Kerala. The film is based on a
Kathakali
performer and its impact on five more lives.
While speaking about her film debut Rukmini said: “I enjoyed a lot during the shoot. Shooting for Katti Nrittam was a wonderful experience. Aneek's clear vision about the film and the crew's efficiency made the whole process extremely enjoyable. Aneek's unique aesthetic and storytelling technique helped me as an actor to channel very raw emotions. I am thrilled to be part of this project.”
Aneek Chaudhuri, who has made critically acclaimed films like ‘White’ and ‘Cactus’ further says: “Rukmini also holds the credit of being co-dialogue writer for a part of this film. The story goes like, I had asked her to send me an audition clip; on watching it, I was not only convinced of casting her but also asked her if we could include the same lines in our film. She agreed! That's how she holds more than one credit for this film.”
