Bollywood
's hot favourite,
Shilpa Rao, who has to her credit umpteen hit numbers, will soon be heard singing two Bengali songs. She has lent her voice to
Anindya Chattopadhyay
's Projapoti Biskut, the music for which is scored by ace composer Shantanu Moitra. Shilpa has a solo, Mukhchora gaan, and a duet with Anindya, Projapoti, projapoti mon, in the film. Both are picturised on Shaon aka newcomer Ishaa Saha. Said Anindya, “I was looking for a powerful voice as the songs take the coming-of-age story of a woman forward. That's why against powerful voices of Shilpa, Chandrani Banerjee and Lagnajita Chakraborty, I have softer male voices like that of Diptarka, Prosen or mine. So, when I told Shantanu about it, he immediately made me hear Shilpa's songs. I love the number, Khuda jaane (Bachna Ae Haseeno), and thought she was the perfect choice.“
The album, said the director, is shaping up well.“Projapoti Biskut is THE album for Puja songs. The soundtrack of my debut film, Open Tee Bioscope, was a success and I am hoping everyone will play these songs on a loop.“
Shilpa, who hails from Jamshedpur, debuted in Bollywood with Javeda zindagi (Anwar) in 2007. Since then, she has sung for movies like Dev.D, Paa, Gulaal, Anjaana Anjaani and
Jab Tak Hai Jaan
, among others. Her latest songs,
Bulleya
and Aj jaane ki zid na karo from Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, were lapped up by one and all.
