The word 'Reborn' in the title is 'metaphorical'. It’s a 20-minute silent shortie exploring the cycle of life with a touching story of a young Dom.
“This film opens a window to the unexplored world of a Dom undertaker who lives with his aged almost paralyzed father in the backwaters of the Bay of Bengal. The helpless father sees his son continues to cremate the departed relatives of the locals nearby. However, one fine morning life steps into their somewhat cocooned world in the form of a baby and it brings in a completely alien perspective to their outlooks. The cycle of life and death takes a new
shape as a woman, who had once aroused his inner craving for the young Dom’s family, arrives as an abandoned corpse at the doorstep. ‘I Reborn’ is like a awakening, the rising, death and the re-awakening of the universal cycle we all travel on,” the critically acclaimed director said giving a sneak peek into the storyline while speaking about the short film.
While Debopriyo Mukherjee plays the young son Haridas Chattopadhyay essays the father’s role in ‘I Reborn’ which has been shot in Tajpur.
