Soumitra Chatterjee's health condition now remains more or less the same with no further development or deterioration. Meanwhile, doctors treating the thespian have revealed they might opt for a

tracheostomy

this week.

Specialist doctors have already been consulted. The medical team in charge of his treatment is currently discussing whether tracheostomy could result in any other unwanted health problems or cause any physical damage. The doctors have received approval from Soumitra’s family for this procedure. If all goes according to plan, doctors will try tracheostomy. Soumitra Chatterjee also received

dialysis

on Sunday.

Tracheostomy is a process by which more oxygen is delivered to the lungs. It’s a surgical procedure where an incision is made on the anterior aspect of the neck to place a tube into the windpipe.

On October 6, Soumitra Chatterjee was rushed to a private hospital in Kolkata after testing positive for COVID-19. From keeping well in the first few days to getting serious and subsequently, very critical, the 85-year-old has been putting up a valiant fight all through. Time and again, his daughter

Poulami Bose

has taken to social media to express her gratitude to the well-wishers of the acting legend.
