In the video, the actor had shared his birthday greetings for the City of Joy, which many still believe was founded by

Job Charnock

on August 24, 1690. However, according to a 2003 judgement by the

Calcutta High Court

, following a PIL filed by the Sabarna Roy Choudhury Paribar Parishad, it’s difficult to pinpoint the city’s birthdate or identify Charnock or anyone else as its founder.

Prosenjit’s video came as a shocker for the Sabarna family. “Even after the high court’s judgement, if actors like Prosenjit Chatterjee spread such misinformation, then it’s not just unfortunate but also misleading,”

Devarshi Roy Choudhury

, secretary and spokesperson of Sabarna Roy Choudhury Paribar Parishad had said after the video came out.

Prosenjit, in reply, had said, “Someone from my team had unknowingly put up the post. But, yes, I take the responsibility for it. Many had shared such posts on August 24. It was not intentional. We only showered our love for Kolkata. The moment I heard about the controversy, the post was removed immediately. I also respect those who fought to set the records straight.”
