Tolly celebs hit the street against cyber abuse

Tollywood celebrities, along with other prominent personalities from different walks of life gathered to protest the

online threats

directed towards Debleena Dutta Mukherjee and Saayoni Ghosh. The two actresses recently received vicious rape threats on Facebook for expressing their opinion on the freedom of food choices.


The event, E Kon Sokal Raater Cheyo Ondhokar (What kind of a morning is it that is darker than night) was attended by Kaushik Sen, Riddhi Sen, Suvaprasanna, Raj Chakraborty, Saayoni Ghosh, Nusrat Jahan, Kanchan Mullick among others.


“Trolls are the bane in our lives. Celebrities, especially women celebrities, are soft targets for these trolls. If we do not protest today, the common people will not be spared tomorrow. Our protest is against the threats on social media against fellow actors. These are not physical but mental assaults,” Kanchan said.


The actresses were mocked and ridiculed for their makeup. Addressing this, scriptwriter Leena Gangopadhyay said, “I write characters that these actresses portray on television. And the entire Bengal watches them all evening. It is a shame that despite so much of popularity, these actresses are being targeted by the same people, who watch them on screen every evening without fail.”


Kaushik Sen, who was there with son Riddhi Sen, said, “Weall need to come together to register our protest against the forces which are out to muzzle our voices, impose their choice on us and thrust their divisive ideology of hatred.
