Tollywood bids singer Kalikaprasad a tearful adieu

Folk singer Kalikaprasad passed away in a fatal car accident this morning when he, along with six of his band members were on their way to Suri in Birbhum district for a programme at a college when the vehicle met with the accident near Gurap.

Folk singer Kalikaprasad passed away in a fatal car accident this morning when he, along with four of his band members were on their way to a cultural event at Suri Bidyasagar College in Birbhum district. Their vehicle met with an accident near Gurap, some 64 km from Kolkata on the Durgapur Expressway (NH2) in Hooghly district. The singer lent his voice in films to films like Jaatishwar (2014), Moner Manush (2010) and Bhuban Majhi (2017), is survived by his wife and daughter.

Sources tell us, the singer was travelling along with members of his Bangla band, 'Dohar', when their SUV was hit from behind by a truck resulting in the vehicle falling into a shallow waterbody.

Everyone was rescued (post local people broke into the car) and were rushed to the Burdwan Medical College and Hospital where Kalikaprasad was declared dead on arrival. The singer would be cremated with full state honour and that his body will be at Rabindra Sadan till 6 pm for his well-wishers to pay their last respects. Soon after the news broke, Tollywood took to Twitter to express their grief and shock.
