Upcoming Bengali film gets a Marathi connect

There’s a Marathi connect to the upcoming Bengali film Bhamini, as actor Umakant Patil of Jawaan, Gangubai Kathiawadi and Sooryavanshi fame will be seen stepping into the role of a special police force officer. The film is Dr Swarnayu Maitra’s debut project and also features Priyanka Sarkar, Tathagata Mukherjee in pivotal roles.

Umakant, who has never been to Kolkata before, is looking forward to the shooting to commence and says, “I haven’t watched many Bengali films apart from some classics by Satyajit Ray, Ritwik Ghatak and other stalwart directors from the region but I know that the industry is full of talent. I am watching more Bengali films now, since I’ve signed Bhamini, to know more about the language and culture.”
Talking about her role in the film, Priyanka says, “It is a woman centric film that brings forth the struggles of a professor, Suhita, through different phases of her life. The subject of the film is very interesting.”
The plot of the film traces the journey of Suhita, as an illegal clinical trial of Human Papillomavirus leads to multiple deaths of innocent girls and women. She joins hands with her friend and colleague Kamal as well as special officer Indra, composed by Umakant to fight against the breakout.
