Basabi Nandi made her film debut with the Bengali cult classic ‘Jamalaye Jibanta Manush’ (1958). Directed by Prafulla Chakraborty, the superhit comedy had an ensemble cast including Bhanu Banerjee, Chhabi Biswas,

Pahari Sanyal

, Kamal Mitra and Tulsi Chakraborty in pivotal roles. Her captivating performance in ‘Bon Palashir Padabali’ (1973) opposite Uttam Kumar is still remembered by movie buffs. Directed by Uttam Kumar, the film became a blockbuster.


The versatile actress appeared in several other hit films such as ‘Baghini’ (1968), ‘Aami Se O Sakha’ (1975) and others.
