We bet you didn’t know these ‘secrets’ of Jisshu Sengupta

For Jisshu Sengupta it’s high time! Last year Mainak Bhaumik’s ‘Ghore and Baire’, Srijit Mukherji’s super hit ‘Uma’ and ‘Ek Je Chhilo Raja’ firmly established the dashing actor as one of the most bankable actors in Bengali industry in recent times. The spell of good run continues this year as well with his supreme act in Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Manikarnika’ where he plays Rani Lakshmi Bai’s husband Gangadhar Rao. Even the first part of South movie NTR biopic has seen a decent response. We all know Jisshu comes with a look to die for, but that's not the only reason to make him the sexiest man of Tollywood. It's his character strength, struggle, cuteness overloaded simplicity and impeccable talent that make him a true hero to dream of.

Who is Biswaroop?

You may be surprised to know that the dashing Bengali actor’s real name is Biswaroop Sengupta. However, the actor is widely known as Jisshu, his nick name. He was born in Kolkata in 1977. Jisshu studied at the Julian day School, where he was addicted to playing cricket. He graduated from Heramba Chandra College in economics, following which his professional career started in an advertising agency.

Cricket fanatic

Before starting his journey as an actor, he was a talented cricketer. He even represented Bengal in some state level sub junior league matches. Being an avid sports person, Jisshu is currently the captain of the Bengal Tigers team in the Celebrity Cricket League. He has even participated in many charity football matches and Kolkata Marathons over the years.

First breakthrough

Jisshu made his acting debut with the popular Bengali TV soap, Mahaprabhu, where he essayed the lead character of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. The role gave a huge breakthrough for a budding actor and he became a household name in Bengal. Subsequently, in 1999 he was cast in a Bengali movie named Priyojon, which failed to give his career the necessary boost.

A complete familyman

Jisshu is married to actress Nilanjana for 14 years and the couple has two cute daughters, Sara and Zara. It’s not an exaggeration if you call Jisshu Sengupta and his beloved wife Nilanjana Sengupta one of the cutest couple the Bengali film industry has ever seen. They have always maintained their lovey-dovey image and never tried to hide their affection for each other.

Owes a lot to Rituparno Ghosh

After few initial failures, a major breakthrough came in his big screen career when the actor collaborated with national award winning director Rituparno Ghosh for the 2010 hit Abohoman, which earned Jisshu raved review. There is another interesting story from the sets of Abohoman. Word is that, director late Rituparno Ghosh made Jisshu stand in front of a wall for one hour because the actor made a mistake during the shoot.

A career-defining negative role

Srijit Mukherji’s 2015 film Rajkahini portrayed Jisshu in a negative character named Kabir. His brilliant acting in this negative role gave Jisshu a round of applause and a little birdie from the Bengali industry once revealed that the Rajkahini negative role is the actor’s one of the favourite. In August 1947, the British rulers passed a bill to divide Bengal. Going deep into the dark history of Partition, Mukherji's movie Rajkahini revolved around a border between the two countries running through a brothel sheltering 11 women.

Part of Shyam Benegal’s Bollywood hit

Jisshu made his debut in Bollywood through Shyam Benegal’s 2005 film Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero. The popular Bengali actor was cast as Sisir Bose, Netaji’s nephew. Since then he has appeared in many Bollywood hits such as Barfi, Mardaani, Piku. His latest big thing in Bollywood is the recently released historical drama Manikarnika starring Kangana Ranaut. The dashing Bengal actor was seen as Rani Laxmibai’s husband Maharaja Gangadhar Rao Newalkar.

A heart-touching story

Jisshu and Nilanjana had to go through a lot before finally getting married in 2004. They have so many cute and adorable stories to share but one of them will no doubt leave you speechless. After the marriage, the couple used to sleep on the floor as they didn’t have a wooden bed at their place. However, it finally came when his wife Nilanjana was first time pregnant!
