’ is ready to evoke nostalgia among Bongs and also reopen a controversial chapter of Bengal and Bengali culture.

Jisshu Sengupta and Subhasish Mukherjee are playing these two iconic characters respectively.
Elaborating on his favourite scene in the film, Jisshu has revealed: “There is a particular scene where Mahanayak meets Bhadra and hugs him tight. That one was no doubt an emotional scene for both of us.” Mahalaya will hit the theatres on March 1.

Birendra Krishna’s Sanskrit recitation dedicated to goddess Durga in Mahisasurmardini became so famous and deeply embedded in the Bengali psyche that even 'Mahanayak' Uttam Kumar had to face severe public outrage when replacing the legend.
