Winter is the season of joy, laughter, food, picnics and merry times. Seeing a lit-up Park Street, the hustle and bustle of
New Market
, snuggling under a blanket is what winter in Kolkata is to me.
Moreover, when I was a kid, the annual examinations used to be over before the winter holidays. That made the holidays more fun. Later on, the exams were shifted to March.
Visiting New Market and Park Street on Christmas was a must. From New Market, we used to buy plum cakes and that time of the year was all about eating. Park Street was also a must-visit for us to enjoy the lights and, of course, to eat.
Another winter ritual was going on picnics. We went to
Halisahar
,
Bakkhali
and so many other places! We used to go in a tempo and breakfast used to be bread, egg and a banana. Once our picnic was on a boat, which got stuck in the middle of the river! I still remember we had lunch at 5 pm in the evening.
