Bengali band performs at Fort William

On the eve of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Bengali band

Paridhi

performed at Fort William on Thursday. For the excited band members, it was a completely different experience. Not only because they are the first Bengali band to perform inside Fort William, but also because they were really moved by the dedication of our army personnel.

Paridhi performed as part of a bigger music show and they presented a 20-minute medley of different patriotic songs, including Teri Mitti, Swadesh, Vande Mataram and Ai Watan. “This was one of the best experiences I have had in my entire singing career. The atmosphere was one of a kind and you can see the army men’s love and respect for the country right in their eyes,” said Souptik Majumder, a band member.
On the work front, last month Paridhi came up with a unique project that includes recreating 12 retro numbers. The songs, in both Bengali and

Hindi

, will be presented in a completely non-traditional way. Their project will be telecast on a popular Bengali entertainment channel. They have chosen only those songs that feature car in the lyrics or in the visuals. For instance, Ei Path Jodi Na Sesh Hoy, Musafir Hu Yaaro and Babu Samjho Zara have some or the other vehicle in common. The recreation part is what makes the entire project interesting. Besides, for melody, the band members have used human voices to sound like

instruments

. “We worked for straight 20 days, day and night, to complete the project and I don’t think a thing like this has ever been attempted in the country on such a large scale,” Souptik added.
