Debojyoti Mishra had met
Soumitra Chattopadhyay for the first time at his house on Lake Temple Road. Soumitra's son Saugata, a poet cum friend, was the reason for Debojyoti to visit their place time and again. It was about the first meet with Soumitra that still makes Debojyoti nostalgic more than anything else.
The ace musician had the chance to listen to the music of Bach on gramophone discs at Soumitra's house. Interestingly, it was necessary to record a song in Soumitra's own voice in the
Atanu Ghosh directed film ‘Mayurakshi’ much later.
“Soumitra Chattopadhyay initially was not keen on recording the song. Eventually, he agreed to do it. Soumitra's musical atmosphere was quite wide. Along with Bach, Beethoven, Rabindranath,
Satyajit Ray, modern songs have also found their place,” recalls Debojyoti.
Recently, Debojyoti drew a collage of melodies on a memorable evening, accompanied by Rupankar,
Iman, Durnibar and many other prominent artists. The tour of that melody comes and goes. Soumitra is alive in the minds of the listeners in the remembrance of the melody.
“I have tried to highlight his musical tour with songs and melodies. From Apur theme to Patalghar, Mayurakshi theme, all the artists have joined hands. I performed a different soundscape with the help of a small chamber orchestra in Soumitra's memory," said the renowned music director.
