Pradipta Bhattacharya brings in a modern twist to the iconic Kobir Lorai

The popular team of 'Birohi' and

Pradipta Bhattacharya

have teamed up again for a unique project titled '

Jhalagan Palagan

' which brings together some of

Bengal

's everlasting debates in the format of the traditional ‘Kobir Lorai’ (Duel of the Verses).

Kobigan

, Tarja Gan, Half-Akhrai were some of the most loved forms of popular expression in old Kolkata.
Kobigan is still performed in rural Bengal. Shot in the heart of Tehatto, this series will mostly draw upon the form of ‘Kobir Lorai’. There will be various kinds of songs including rap, hard rock, kirtan, adhunik (modern) songs, Hindi songs etc.

Bengalis forever remain immersed in 'adda'(fun discussions) regardless of whether they are on land, water or even in space. The nature of the adda changes but the 'adda' remains constant. For instance, the adda at a 5-star hotel is very different from the adda one encounters at a tea stall or over zoom. Whatever the space, there are some things about the Bengalis’ adda which remain eternal and imperishable. For instance, Bangaals and Ghotis or East Bengal and Mohun Bagan.

'Jhalagan Palagan' is presented in the form of a costume drama. For instance, the East Bengal-Mohun Bagan part features participants wearing the jerseys of the clubs while the episode on Uttam-Soumitra acts out with participants wearing the costumes of the iconic characters played by these two legendary actors. They l debate and joust with each other through songs.

“It’s a fresh new form of content that has not been presented before in the sphere of Bengali entertainment. Pradipta da is a powerful content creator who has always presented something unique to the audience. Be it Birohi which is this year's most talked about content or his films, he never ceases to amaze us" said Sourav Chakraborty, on behalf of the platform where it’s being shown.

, music by Satyaki Chakraborty, and lyrics composed by Dipanshu Acharya, ‘Jhalagan Palagan’ has already created quite a lot of buzz. It has been co-directed by Anurava Mitra and Nilay Samiran Nandi.
