Tabla player Mayookh Bhaumik receives award at SXSW Film Festival in Austin

Tabla player and film music composer, Mayookh Bhaumik recently received the Uniquely South Asian Award from the South Asian House at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin Texas for his noteworthy contribution to the overall upliftment of the South Asian Diaspora in the US. The award was presented at the SXSW Film Festival where he also performed an exclusive tabla concert.Bhaumik is the first American-born Indian classical musician to have made a mark in the classical music scene in India, having accompanied the greatest Indian Maestros at the biggest conferences all over the world. He has also scored over 44 films and received The National Award for his score of Kaushik Ganguly’s film Laptop in 2012.
“I’m extremely humbled to have received this amazing recognition especially from my birth place and hope that many more young talents come forward to pursue their dreams and explore their talents. Distance and culture are not inversely proportional and I think my journey stands proof to that effect,” said Mayookh.
