Chaitali, Sujoy to pay tribute to Tagore with trivia

Kobipokkho has already started and the city artistes leave no stone unturned to pay tribute to one of the greatest litterateurs of the world, Rabindranath Tagore. Television personality and Tagore enthusiast Chaitali Dasgupta, along with interdisciplinary artiste Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee, has planned to host an event, Ganer Goppo, in which the duo will be depicting stories behind various Tagore’s songs. Mukhopadhyay and Saikat Sekhareswar Ray, will present Rabindrasangeet. The show was conceptualised, penned and directed by Chaitali.

“Did you know that Tagore earned a cheque of Rs 500 from his father for singing a song? In fact, did you know that Rabindranath was only 14 years old when he wrote a song for a play by his brother Jyotirindranath Tagore? We are going to talk about such unknown trivia. Through the narrative, the members of the club and their guests will hear incidents that inspired Tagore to pen songs like Gahana Kusum Kunj Maajhe, Shokatore Oi, Oli Baar Baar Fire Jaaye and many others. This concert celebrates the 158th birthday of Tagore and is very special to me because Gaaner Goppo was my first audio album, produced by filmmaker Raja Dasgupta,” Sujoy told us.
