'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom' box office collection: Jason Momoa starrer off to Rs 3 crore start; faces stiff competition from 'Dunki' and 'Salaar'

'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom' has found itself navigating the box office currents as it faces stiff competition from the Indian films - Shah Rukh Khan's 'Dunki' and Prabhas' action-packed 'Salaar'.

The DC superhero sequel, directed by James Wan and starring Jason Momoa, made a splash with an approximate collection of Rs 3 crore nett on its opening day at the Indian box office. However, the tides seem to have turned on its second day, with earnings hovering around Rs 68 lakh in the first half of the day.

The film's performance is reflected in its occupancy rates, registering an overall 12.99% occupancy for English shows and 17.00% occupancy for Hindi dubbed versions. Morning shows accounted for 10.63%, while afternoon shows saw a spike at 15.34%.



The box office clash with 'Dunki' and 'Salaar' has undoubtedly impacted the Jason Momoa starrer, as both Indian films aim for a lucrative haul over the extended Christmas weekend.

Meanwhile, at the US box office, current projections suggest the sequel may achieve a domestic box office debut ranging from $37 million to $43 million during the four-day Christmas weekend. This is a noticeable dip compared to its predecessor's performance five years ago.

In 2018, the original "Aquaman" secured a robust $67.9 million three-day opening, ultimately grossing $335.1 million domestically and a staggering $1.15 billion globally.

Despite the competitive landscape, 'Aquaman 2' remains a frontrunner, especially considering the challenging year for superhero genres at the box office.

Directed by James Wan the film features a star-studded cast, including Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Nicole Kidman, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Michael Keaton in key roles.
