Superman box office collection Day 3: James Gunn's superhero film opens with Rs 24.96 crore in India
James Gunn’s much-anticipated Superman made a solid start at the Indian box office, collecting an estimated Rs 24.96 crore net over its debut weekend. The DC reboot, starring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, began its run with a modest Rs 7 crore on Friday, saw a healthy jump to Rs 9.5 crore on Saturday, but experienced a slight dip on Sunday, pulling in approximately Rs 8.44 crore. Interestingly, while Sunday saw a marginal decline in the English version's ticket sales, the Hindi-dubbed screening gained traction. Of the total earnings, the English version led the charge with Rs 17.92 crore, while the Hindi version contributed Rs 5.22 crore. The remaining collection came from the Tamil and Telugu versions of the film. While the numbers are respectable, they fall short of earlier projections, which estimated an opening of Rs 40 to Rs 50 crore in India, especially given the high buzz and global anticipation. Still, with Rs 25 crore already in the bag and positive audience feedback, the film could benefit from strong word-of-mouth in the coming weekdays.Globally, Superman soared to the top of the North American box office with an impressive $122 million opening. However, overseas performance has been more subdued. In 78 international markets, the film grossed $95 million, including a lukewarm $6.6 million from China.
Superman introduces a fresh take on the iconic superhero and features a star-studded ensemble including Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, Anthony Carrigan, and Edi Gathegi. The film sets the stage for a new chapter in the DC Universe and will be closely watched in the days ahead for its performance both domestically and globally.
