The Garfield Movie earns Rs 61 lakh on first Monday

Garfield is considered to be one of the most loved and well known cats in the world, he is known to love lasagna and hate Mondays. The character was turned into a film for the big screen with ‘ The Garfield Movie’, and it seems that fans are having mixed emotions about the feline. The film opened in India to just Rs 80 lakhs, but on Saturday it saw a jump of over 100 % to collect Rs 1.61 crore, and on Sunday it jumped even more to collect Rs 1.84 crore. But on Monday, which was a holiday in certain key markets because of Lok Sabha elections, the film crashed by nearly 67 % to earn only Rs 61 lakhs as per early estimates by Sacnilk. The total collection of the film now stands at Rs 4.86 crore.

The makers had roped in Chris Pratt to voice Garfield’s character . The film revolves around Garfield, who meets his long last father Vic, voiced by Samuel L Jackson and encapsulates their adventures while they plan a heist. The film will be released in the US on May 24, and that is when the actual push for the film will come. In India, the makers have roped in Varun Sharma, known for his ‘Choocha’ act from ‘Fukrey’ series, to be the voice of Garfield. ‘The Garfield Movie’ has currently earned more than US $ 50 million from its international screenings.
