Marvel's latest superhero offering, Thunderbolts, is on track to cross the Rs 10 crore mark in India by the end of its debut weekend. The film, featuring Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus in key roles, has shown a steady performance at the box office over its first three days.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Thunderbolts opened with an estimated Rs 3.85 crore on Thursday. However, the film witnessed a significant dip on Day 2, collecting only around Rs 1.7 crore. It rebounded on Saturday with a strong showing, earning approximately Rs 2.79 crore, bringing its total to Rs 8.34 crore so far.
The film has found its primary audience in English-speaking markets, which have contributed Rs 5.91 crore to the total. The remaining Rs 2.43 crore has come from Hindi and Telugu dubbed versions.
Despite its positive reviews and strong fan anticipation, Thunderbolts faces tough competition from local releases. Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2 has dominated the box office with an impressive Rs 49.25 crore haul in its extended first weekend. Southern hits like Retro and Hit 3 have also drawn significant audiences, further dividing footfall.
Adding to the buzz, Thunderbolts received a high-profile endorsement from none other than Robert Downey Jr. The actor, beloved for his portrayal of Iron Man, took to Instagram to share photos with his fellow Marvel stars and praise the film. “Just wow!!! Dinner and a show with the Old Avengers. So cool, fresh, and deep. Big congrats to the New Avengers (and Bob). #Thunderbolts,” he wrote.
Directed by Jake Schreier, the ensemble cast also includes Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, Hannah John-Kamen, Geraldine Viswanathan, Chris Bauer, and Wendell Pierce. The story centres on a team of superhumans grappling with internal conflicts as they attempt to work together in the absence of a unified Avengers lineup. Their challenge intensifies when a mysterious new superhuman, “Bob,” enters the picture.
With positive word-of-mouth and continued audience interest, Thunderbolts remains poised for a strong finish to its opening weekend.
