Actor Jonah Hill teases Kristen Wiig comedy 'Cut Off'; Says, 'Pure stupidity'
Actor-filmmaker Jonah Hill has teased his upcoming comedy film 'Cut Off', calling it "pure stupidity" and promising audiences an unapologetically silly cinematic experience, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Speaking at the SmartLess Live event, Hill described the film in humorous terms while addressing hosts Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes.
"Next one is pure stupidity," Hill said of the film, which is slated to release in theatres on July 17.
Asked to elaborate, he added, "It's dumb. I'm about to go on a run of just the dumbest....you've ever seen in your entire life. I hope you left your brains at home, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Sharing details about the storyline, Hill said the film features him alongside Kristen Wiig as wealthy but clueless heirs. "It's called Cut Off and Kristen Wiig and I play two dumb ass heirs, rich kids in their mid-40s who get cut off by their rich parents," he said.
He further revealed that the parents are played by Bette Midler and Nathan Lane. "It is like Step Brothers, Clueless and Trading Places. Classic comedy. It's so great, and Kristen Wiig is an American treasure," Hill added.
The film is directed by Hill himself from a script he co-wrote with Ezra Woods and comes after his recent project Outcome, which stars Keanu Reeves, Cameron Diaz and Matt Bomer, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Expressing gratitude for collaborating with top talent, Hill said, "I've been so lucky. I last worked with Keanu Reeves and Cameron Diaz and now Bette Midler and Nathan Lane. I'm the luckiest guy."
The actor also highlighted his intent to revive theatrical comedy. "We are trying to bring comedy back to theaters," he said, giving a shoutout to Warner Bros. executives Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Reflecting on his recent absence from the spotlight, Hill admitted he is now eager to return to his comedic roots. "I've been gone for a while, so I'm kind of coming back and I'm like excited because I got all, like, serious for a while and I wasn't as happy," he said.
He added that personal changes, including starting a family, have reignited his passion for humour. "Then I had my family and I got happy, and now all I want to do is be funny again."
Hill, who had previously stepped back from public appearances due to anxiety, said reconnecting with joy has been transformative. "If you're bummed, you don't feel like being that funny, right? The first thing I thought about when I had my kids... it was like I connected to back when I was just like 12 and I was just being funny for fun," he said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Looking ahead, Hill expressed enthusiasm about taking on more acting roles. "I'm like, dude, I'm so excited to just put on the t-shirt you tell me to put on and go be funny," he said.
He concluded with a promise to audiences: "I promise to try and make a movie every year that's funny," according to The Hollywood Reporter.Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the latest Hindi movies, upcoming Hindi movies in 2026 , and Telugu movies.”
