All We Imagine As Light

​Directed by Payal Kapadia, 'All We Imagine As Light' is the first Indian film contending in the Palme d'Or segment, since 1994's 'Swaham'. Set against the backdrop of a hospital, the film follows the journey of two nurses, can't seem to find personal time with their significant other. However, a trip to a beach town allows them to explore their desires, love and embark on a journey to self-discovery.

​Sandhya Suri's "Santosh" is an mpowering tale of a newly widowed woman who inherits her husband's role as a police constable in rural northern India. Starring Shahana Goswami in the lead role, the film takes a turn when the new constable is pulled into the rape and murder investigation of a low-caste girl, while under the wing of charismatic feminist inspector Sharma.

This cinematic gem by Shyam Benegal, and produced by 500,000 farmers who contributed Rs 2 each towards the making, the film offers a compelling portrayal of social change and grassroots empowerment. According to the synopsis, "Manthan" is a powerful film about the tempestuous winds of change that blow through a village when an idealistic veterinary surgeon from the city arrives in the village to start a milk cooperative movement. His notions of equitable distribution of profits irrespective of class and caste and freedom from exploitative middlemen, churn up a maelstrom of mistrust, anger and resistance among the feudal landlords and the peasants,
