Channing Tatum Hopes Gambit Cameo in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Will Lead to Solo Movie

Channing Tatum is holding out hope that his recent cameo as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine might pave the way for a standalone Gambit film. At the premiere of Blink Twice in West Hollywood, Tatum expressed his wish that the cameo would lead to a full movie about the character.

Tatum and his producing partner, Reid Carolin, had spent four years working on a Gambit film for 20th Century Fox, but the project was shelved when Disney acquired Fox in 2019. Tatum has continued to express his interest in making the Gambit film a reality, stating, "I’ve been saying I want it for the last 10 years. It’s in Bob Iger and Kevin Feige’s hands. I pray to God."

Tatum thanked Ryan Reynolds on Instagram for including him as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine, saying he thought he had lost the chance to play the character forever. He expressed deep gratitude to Reynolds, noting how much the role meant to him and describing Reynolds as someone he will owe forever.

The actor also praised Shawn Levy, the director of Deadpool & Wolverine, calling him "a brilliant creator on every single level" and describing the movie as "a masterpiece" that brought him immense joy.

In addition to his role in Deadpool & Wolverine, Tatum stars in Blink Twice, a new film directed by Zoë Kravitz. In this movie, Tatum plays a billionaire who hosts a lavish but chaotic party on his private island. The film, which was originally titled Pussy Island, was renamed due to cultural sensitivities, though Tatum still refers to it by its original title.

Tatum also appeared on the red carpet with Kravitz, marking their first public appearance as a couple. Blink Twice is set to be released in theaters by Amazon MGM Studios on August 23.
