Charlie Cox's parents hilariously confused by Ben Affleck's ‘Daredevil’

Actor Charlie Cox recently shared a funny anecdote about his parents' attempt to watch his new series, Daredevil: Born Again, on the OTT platform. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Cox recounted the comical mishap that occurred when his parents accidentally tuned into Ben Affleck's 2003 Daredevil movie instead.

Cox joked that guiding his parents through the intricacies of the OTT platform proved to be "a bit of an ordeal" due to the distance between them. He explained that he painstakingly gave them instructions via FaceTime on how to navigate the service and find his show, which ultimately led to a series of amusing errors.

After finally believing his parents had successfully set up their account, Cox called them for their feedback on Daredevil: Born Again. Their initial response was vague, “They said, yeah no, yeah, good. Very good. Quite similar to the original show from…and I went, what? How?” They then referenced a "bit with the backstory and your dad," further confusing the actor.

It turned out his parents had inadvertently re-watched the old Daredevil movie starring Ben Affleck, which is also available on streaming platforms, instead of his new web series. When Cox specifically instructed them to go to the designated OTT platform where his show was released, and call him after watching ‘his’ show, they phoned him just 20 minutes later with a bewildered reaction. As Cox recalled, they exclaimed, “This can’t be right! I was like, what? And he goes, doesn’t even look like you! I’m like, right, that is Ben Affleck.”

The character of Daredevil, also known as Matt Murdock, is a blind lawyer who fights for justice both in the courtroom and as a masked vigilante on the streets of New York City. Ben Affleck portrayed this role in the 2003 film Daredevil, which also featured Jennifer Garner, Michael Clarke Duncan, Colin Farrell, Joe Pantoliano, Jon Favreau, and David Keith.

Charlie Cox first took on the mantle of Daredevil in the critically acclaimed web series that ran from 2015 to 2018. He has since reprised the role in a cameo appearance in the 2021 film Spider-Man: No Way Home, the 2022 web series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and the 2025 animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
