'Mortal Kombat'

reboot. According to an entertainment magazine, Han is being tapped to play Shang Tsung, while Sanada is gearing to portray Scorpion.

The duo join Joe Taslim, Mehcad Brooks, Ludi Lin, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Tadanobu Asano, Sisi Stringer, and Lewis Tan. Shang Tsung is one of the few original characters, who debuted in the first 'Mortal Kombat' arcade game as the final boss.

A powerful evil warlock and shapeshifter, he is the arch-nemesis to Liu Kang (Lin). Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa played the Shang in the original film. Whereas, Scorpion is another classic character from the game, who is an undead ninja warrior seeking revenge from the person who killed him.

The project is based on the classic 1990s arcade game that centered around a massive roster of character fighters from different realms in a fictional universe battling for supremacy. The reboot is set to be helmed by first-time directed Simon McQuoid.

Greg Russo

penned the most recent draft. The film will hit the screens on March 5, 2021.
