Chris Pratt reflects on early career roles, says he played the ‘douche character’ over and over
In a candid reflection, Chris Pratt, now one of Hollywood's brightest stars, recalls his early career spent in the shadow of unlikable 'douche' boyfriend roles. It’s a phase he has successfully outgrown, replacing those characters with heroic figures in hits like 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and 'Jurassic World'.
Long before he became Star-Lord, Chris Pratt took on roles that now make him question his choices. The Hollywood heartthrob recently opened up about his early career days, saying the roles he played in his early days were somewhat problematic and “douche.

Chris Pratt recalls early career roles

While speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the star reflected on how often he played the “d--khead boyfriend” in movies. Pratt was remembering 2009’s Bride Wars, which starred Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson. The actor played Fletcher, the longtime boyfriend of Hathaway's character, who is controlling and hates that she becomes more outspoken as a spat with her best friend rages on. "This is the role that I often was offered from early in my career up until this point," Pratt said, adding, "which is the guy you don't want to end up with the girl, and kind of the douche character."

He explained, "I've been offered that a lot. I dined out on 'd--khead boyfriend' for a long time."

A history of Chris Pratt’s bad-boyfriend roles

Pratt also appeared as another problematic guy in 2008’s ‘Wanted,’ 2010’s ‘10 Years,’ and 2011’s ‘Take Me Home Tonight’ and ‘What's Your Number?’ (both starring his ex-wife, Anna Faris). Even on his series ‘Everwood,’ which ran from 2002 to 2006, his character Bright Abbott was the same from time to time.

When Chris Pratt showed his versatility

As Parks and Rec was ending, Pratt was cast as Star-Lord in 2014’s 'Guardians of the Galaxy.' He followed that up with 2015’s Jurassic World and established himself as a blockbuster film star. He certainly proved he can do more than being the “toxic male character.” Meanwhile, this month, Chris Pratt is all set to star in ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,’ which is the sequel to 2023’s ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie.’
