Enrique Iglesias has found himself at the centre of online controversy after reposting a years-old video showing him smooching a fan during an old concert. The singer on Wednesday, shared the old clip on his handle to promote his upcoming shows in Kazakhstan, Slovakia and Mexico. However, the video prompted criticism from some followers.
The video, originally filmed during a Las Vegas event, nearly four years ago, was reposted online this week on his handle. In the clip, Iglesias can be seen embracing a female fan before kissing her on the cheek. The woman then goes on to smooch the singer, who was initially surprised at the kiss, but simply laughed it off. At the time, the footage quickly went viral on social media.
However, the singer's decision to repost the clip to promote his new shows, raised eyebrows. Some fans speculated that the post could signal trouble in Iglesias' relationship with
Anna Kournikova, with whom he has been in a relationship since 2001.
One Instagram user commented, "Is he still with Anna? I bet she is p***ed!" Another wrote, "We’ve already seen this video, but out of respect for Anna, you shouldn’t share it."
“We know that she knows and accepts it but better to respect,” the fan said, while another added, "Enrique, please delete this video; people's opinions about it are not good."
Still another wrote, "Even though I absolutely love this man as an artist, I do feel there are certain boundaries that should not be crossed.. idk it feels immoral."
Enrique previously opened up about his fans often crossing the line with him. Speaking on SiriusXM's FYI Show two years ago, Iglesias said, "Anna will be at one of my shows and I’ll do that. I do that all the time – I love embracing, kissing and hugging my fans. I like getting close up."
“A lot of times she [says], ’Man, I always get this look from some of the girls… and they’ll ask, ‘Are you OK with it?’ Yeah, I’m totally cool he’s onstage. He’s embracing his fans.'"
The couple, who have maintained a notably private personal life share four children - twins Lucy and Nicolas, Mary and Romeo.
