Jeff Baena, a filmmaker known for his dark comedies and collaborative projects with his wife, actor Aubrey Plaza, was found dead at his Los Angeles home on Friday. He passed away at the age of 47. Reports from Los Angeles medical examiner records, as cited by E! News, confirmed that the cause of death was suicide.

Baena was celebrated for his unique storytelling and contributions to independent cinema. He co-wrote the 2004 film I Heart Huckabees, directed by David O. His 2016 film Joshy tackled themes of loss and friendship, starring Thomas Middleditch as a man navigating life after his fiancée's suicide. In 2020, Baena collaborated with Allison Brie on the psychological drama Horse Girl.

Born and raised in Miami, Jeff attended film school at New York University before relocating to Los Angeles to pursue a career in entertainment. His films were well-received at festivals like Sundance and South by Southwest and distributed by companies like Netflix, Lionsgate, and IFC.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Aubrey Plaza, along with his mother, Barbara Stern, stepfather Roger Stern, father Scott Baena, and stepmother Michele Baena. His untimely death has left a significant void in the world of independent cinema and among his loved ones.
