From ‘Christy’ to Cassie in ‘Euphoria season 3’; Here's how Sydney Sweeney dropped 35 pounds in just 7 weeks
Sydney Sweeney left fans stunned with her dramatic physical transformation for her sports biopic ‘Christy’. But once the film wrapped, the actress had to move swiftly into an entirely different mindset to return as Cassie in 'Euphoria season 3.' In an incredibly short time span of just seven weeks, Sydney managed to lose nearly 35 pounds. From intense bulking to strict discipline, the actress has now opened up about the demanding journey that took her from one physically challenging role straight into another.
“I only had seven weeks in between wrapping ‘Christy’ and starting ‘Housemaid’ and ‘Euphoria’,” she shared, adding that she had to be extremely “strict” with her routine.
For ‘Christy’, the actress had gained nearly 35 pounds to portray the athlete authentically. The weight gain came with intense weight training, kickboxing, and a calorie-heavy diet.
Sydney explained that her initial weight loss happened rapidly once she stopped intense bulking. “The moment I stopped going to the gym, though, and I stopped taking the protein shakes and the creatine, I dropped a lot pretty quickly,” she said.
However, she admitted that the final stage of the journey was far more difficult. “Then I had to be really strict. The last 10. The last 10 were like, ‘We really want to stay with you.’ But no. I had to be pretty strict.”
Despite the challenges, Sydney revealed that she actually enjoyed gaining weight for the role, calling the transformation empowering rather than exhausting.
Alongside this intense workout schedule, she dramatically increased her calorie intake to support muscle gain. Earlier, she had even shared Instagram stories showing herself eating pizza and fast food, joking about trying to keep her calories high.
By the end of the transformation, she admitted she did not fit into any of her regular clothes anymore but felt incredibly strong and powerful.
She shared that she was “downing protein shake after protein shake and taking a lot of creatine,” which caused bloating. Once she stopped, the weight started dropping. “When you stop working out and taking all your protein shakes, you lose muscle super fast. It’s the first thing to go before fat. So, that, I dropped within two weeks.”
She also emphasized that staying active her entire life contributed to her quick recovery. “I’ve always kind of just stayed active and always had a good metabolism. I can gain weight, but I can lose it too.”
Still, Sydney hinted that ‘Christy’ might be the only time she pushes her body this far again.
