Actor Glen Powell, known for his role in 'Top Gun: Maverick', recently made headlines by offering a unique prize to the winner of a lookalike contest held in his hometown of Austin, Texas.
The event, which took place at Auditorium Shores in Town Lake Park, drew hundreds of fans who dressed up as various versions of Powell, from his movie characters to quirky representations like a dog resembling his rescue pet, Brisket. Powell’s mother and aunt were among the judges who helped pick the winner.
Although Powell couldn’t attend the event in person due to filming Edgar Wright’s remake of 'The Running Man' in England, he joined via a video message. In the humorous clip, Powell joked about the contestants pulling off a “heist” together because of their similar looks, dubbing it a “Glen-terprise.” He added that anyone not shirtless at the event wasn’t fully embracing the spirit of the contest.
The actor then surprised everyone with an unexpected reward. He announced that the winner of the contest would get the opportunity to have a family member of their choice make a cameo appearance in his next film. Powell quipped that this “prize” was worth $6 billion, emphasizing the exclusivity of the experience.
He wrapped up the video by expressing his love for Austin, encouraging everyone to “keep Austin weird” and take a group photo for him.
The winner, Max Braunstein, took home a cowboy hat, free queso from Torchy’s Tacos for a year, a cash prize, and the coveted cameo opportunity.
This contest is part of a growing trend of celebrity lookalike events, which began with a Timothée Chalamet competition in New York City. Since then, similar contests have popped up for stars like Harry Styles, Paul Mescal, and Dev Patel in cities around the world.
