Harvey Weinstein continues jail time after third mistrial; Judge claims jury as 'hopelessly deadlocked'
TRIGGER WARNING: The article contains references to rape and sexual abuse.Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced Hollywood mogul, continues to remain in jail after getting a mistrial for the third time in a row. The New York jury was unable to reach a verdict with a unanimous decision on the #MeToo sexual assault case of aspiring actress Jessica Mann.

Harvey Weinstein's trial reaches a deadlock

On May 15, 2026, the US Judge Curtis Farber received the note from jurors stating that they were deadlocked. While he urged them to make a decision, he said that the jury was hopelessly deadlocked and there was no reason to keep them any longer outside their presence.Previously, in 2020, Weinstein was convicted of assaulting Mann and a production assistant in 2006. However, the state’s highest court overturned the conviction and the Hollywood producer’s 23-year sentence, stating that he did not get a fair trial, according to Reuters.

What are the lawyers thinking?

Meanwhile, Prosecutors were thinking whether they should appeal for the fourth time for the trial, as some of the jurors mentioned outside of the court that 9 out of 12 members wanted to acquit Weinstein, as per a CNN report. While Weinstein was escorted after the judgment in the court, the defence attorney claimed that he was pleased with the outcome.
“Maybe it’s not the win that he wanted, but it’s a win, and we’re going to keep fighting,” attorney Marc Agnifilo said, according to the outlet.

About Harvey Weinstein and his case

On the other hand, some jurors saw discrepancies in the story explained by Jessica Mann. “I don’t come to that easily, but it just seemed that there was enough reasonable doubt,” juror Josh Hadar said. Another 25-year-old juror said, “There were places where we couldn’t trust her word for it.”Since the entire #MeToo movement began on social media, dozens of women have come forward and accused Harvey Weinstein of sexual misconduct. However, he has consistently denied any wrongdoing, according to the BBC. After a month-long trial ended, Weinstein had no visible reaction on his face.DISCLAIMER: If you or someone you know is struggling with abuse, please seek help.
