Johnny Depp's 'Modi' biopic starring Riccardo Scamarcio and Al Pacino set for San Sebastian Film Festival Premiere

Johnny Depp’s sophomore directorial venture, Modi — Three Days on the Wings of Madness, is set to premiere at the San Sebastian Film Festival next month.

Starring Riccardo Scamarcio as the iconic Italian painter Amedeo Modigliani, Modi is set to premiere in the out-of-competition category at the San Sebastian Film Festival. Described as “a tale of art, love, and rejection,” the film captures a 72-hour frenzy in a war-torn Paris. The cast also includes Stephen Graham, Al Pacino, and Antonia Desplat.



Modi marks Johnny Depp's directorial comeback after his 1997 debut with The Brave, which received critical backlash. This project is one of Depp’s first since his high-profile 2022 defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard, a victory that came with significant career turbulence. Depp returned to the spotlight at Cannes in 2023 with Jeanne du Barry, and while rumors suggested Modi might premiere at Venice, it has instead opted for San Sebastian.

In a statement accompanying new set photos from Modi, Johnny Depp described the filmmaking process as “an incredibly fulfilling and transformative experience.”
