According to reports, the film earned a huge Rs 115 crore collection at the worldwide box office on just its first day, setting it up for a promising run at the ticket windows. Should it live up to the hype, it could just become one of the highest-grossing films of the year, on par with Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan, Sunny Deol's Gadar 2 and Rajinikanth's Jailer.

However, after catching the first few screenings, some netizens took to Twitter to allege that the film is a "copy paste" of the 2005 Hollywood film 'A History of Violence'. Interestingly, director Lokesh Kanagaraj himself, mentioned that his film is a tribute to the David Cronenberg directorial that starred Viggo Mortensen, Maria Bello, Ed Harris and William Hurt in lead roles. The film follows a man living a quiet life in a small town, running a cafe, when the past comes knocking. While it is said that Leo follows the same story line, it is slightly bigger in terms of production value.

According to a tweet, the film was "Almost a Scene to Scene" copy of the original, based on a 1997 graphic novel.

Recently, superstar Rajinikanth also talked about 'Thalapathi' Vijay and Sanjay Dutt's film 'Leo' and said, "I pray to God, that movie should become a huge hit."
