Makeup artist Rebecca Wachtel reveals details of Riley Keough's transformation into drug-fuelled rockstar Daisy Jones
Riley Keough, granddaughter of the legendary singing star, Elvis Presley is already making a big splash in her role as singer Daisy Jones in Daisy Jones & The Six, the limited series that premiered on a leading OTT platform today.
Rebecca Wachtel worked on the serial as a makeup artist, helping transform a fresh-faced Riley Keough who acts as Daisy Jones through the different scenes in the film.
“Makeup plays a huge part. It creates the visual,” Rebecca told the media in an interview. Daisy Jones undergoes the biggest changes through the course of the serial and different shades of makeup were skilfully blended to show the various stages and experiences that fate throws at Daisy Jones.
Rebecca did that expertly with the help of a few selected shades of eyeshadow and foundation. To show the sun-kissed look on a fresh-faced Daisy, the make-up used was cream-based. Then, she becomes a rockstar and begins to wear some makeup. Later, when at the height of her fame, Daisy Jones turns into a junkie, she is supposed to look washed out, and to hide that, heavy makeup was used in garish shades to reflect the time.
Here’s where Rebecca’s skills shone through. As she said in the interview, "…she (Daisy) starts with warmer toned eyeshadows on her face, warm colours on her cheeks." Then, when “she's losing control, I started to take the colour away, using cooler shadow tones, and I let some of her natural circles show through," said Rebecca in the interview.
