The ‘Goodfellas’ filmmaker recently shared an essay with The New York Times, where he talked about his fellow filmmaker, Rob. He called him his friend and expressed sadness over their untimely demise. He shared, “Rob Reiner was my friend, and so was Michele. From now on, I’ll have to use the past tense, and that fills me with such profound sadness. But there’s no other choice”.

He then recalled meeting Rib for the first time when they were both in New York City in the 1970s. Fondly looking back on their memories together, Scorsese added, “Right away, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would take over the room.”He also mentioned that one of his favourite films, ‘Misery’, was made by none other than Rob Reiner. He described it as “a very special film, beautifully acted by Kathy Bates and James Caan.”

Scorsese also shared that the two somehow clicked right away, and that he was a “hilarious and sometimes bitingly funny” man, who was so easy to connect with, but would never take up the whole room. On December 14, Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner were found in their Brentwood, LA home by their daughter Romy. The two were found with stab wounds as per initial reports. After the initial investigation, their son, Nick Reiner, was arrested by the authorities.
