Michelle Obama has revealed her shock on hearing about the demise of her friend, Rob Reiner.

The former First Lady shared on a chat show with Jimmy Kimmel, that she and former US President Barack Obama were scheduled to meet Rob and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, on the same night the couple were found dead in their Los Angeles home. Obama on her appearance on the show on Monday, told host Kimmel, “We were supposed to be seeing them that night - last night.”




She did not elaborate on the nature of their plans, but she shared her shock over their passing.

Donald Trump slammed for comments against Rob Reiner

During her appearance, Michelle also hit back at a social media post by US President Donald Trump, who referred to Rob as “deranged”. The president's post against the actor and politician has drawn widespread condemnation across political lines.

Addressing the remark, Michelle said, “Let me just say this, unlike some people, Rob and Michele Reiner are some of the most decent, courageous people you ever want to know. They are not deranged or crazed. What they have always been are passionate people who, in a time when there’s not a lot of courage going on, they were the kind of people who were ready to put their actions behind what they cared about. And they cared about their family. And they cared about this country. And they cared about fairness and equity. And that is the truth.”

Barack Obama pays tribute to Rob Reiner

Barack Obama had earlier shared a touching tribute to the Reiners on social media, writing, “Together, he and his wife lived lives defined by purpose. They will be remembered for the values they championed and the countless people they inspired.”

This comes amid mounting shock over the deaths of the filmmaker and his wife, who were discovered with stab wounds at their Brentwood residence on Sunday afternoon. Some reports indicate that their throats were slit.

Nick Reiner and Rob Reiner get into argument on eve of killing

News reports indicated that Michele and Rob Reiner had attended a Christmas party hosted by comedian Conan O’Brien on Saturday night, accompanied by their son Nick Reiner. At the party, the actor was reportedly seen in a 'heated argument' with Nick, TMZ reports.

The news report further went on to claim that Michele had told friends that she and Rob were at their wits' end over Nick's mental illness and alleged substance abuse issues. "We've tried everything," the report states.

While at first their identities were not released, authorities later confirmed that Rob and Michele were found dead at approximately 3.30 pm local time on Sunday. The Los Angeles Police Department said officers from its Robbery Homicide Division “determined that the Reiners were the victims of homicide”.

Nick Reiner arrested and charged with murder

Nick Reiner, 32, was arrested at around 9.15 pm the same day on suspicion of murder and remains in custody without bail. On Monday, he was charged with murder.

The investigations remain ongoing.
