One of the grandest stages of all, the Academy Awards is all set to be held on Sunday (9th February 2020) in Los Angeles, California. While the nominations have already left the fans excited, the Oscars always has its own share of glitz and glamour.

Like always Oscars has been criticized for its lack of diversity this year as well. However, the situation seems to have got a bit more uglier than last year as there is only one non-white actor nominated: Cynthia Erivo for 'Harriet' in the Best Actress category.

With actors like Jennifer Lopez (Hustlers), Lupita Nyong’o (Us) and Eddie Murphy (Dolemite Is My Name) being snubbed, this year's Oscar have been overshadowed by white nominees once again.

With the likes of Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, Sam Mendes dominating the Best Director's category, many critically acclaimed movies directed by female directors have been snubbed at this years Academy Awards. This is in fact, the second year in a row that the Best Director category has been dominated by all-male nominees. Apart from Greta Gerwig, whose film 'Little Women' which has been nominated in other categories, ace female filmmakers like Lorene Scafaria (Hustlers), Marielle Heller (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood) and Lulu Wang (The Farewell) were all left out.

Todd Phillips' 'Joker' might have the highest number of nominations at this years Academy Award but its nomination in the Best Picture category has received a lot of flack. Despite 11 nominations, the odds for the Joaquin Phoenix starring winning the award for the Best Picture aren't looking good due to its dark subject and glorification of a negative character.

While are fans expecting the Oscars to step up their game this year and avoid creating another controversy, the Todd Phillips directorial will surely be the talk of the town for a long time.

After the low ratings from 2018 Academy Awards, the makers decided to go ahead with the show and have no host. While the experiment turned out to hit the bull's eye last year with improved ratings, the Academy Awards has decided to go hostless once again this year. Well, with a few days left to the Oscars, fans are quite excited to see who ends up with the biggest award on this planet.

Nigerian film 'Lionheart' was denied entry into the Oscars this year due to the predominance of English in the film. While the Igbo language was also used in the film, the film didn't make it to the Best International Feature Film as films which don't have English in it are only eligible to qualify. Taking to Twitter, Genevieve Nnaji, the director of the film 'Lionheart' wrote, "This movie represents the way we speak as Nigerians. This includes English which acts as a bridge between the 500+ languages spoken in our country; thereby making us #OneNigeria."
