'The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame' has announced the list of artists who will be inducted in 2025.
As reported by Deadline, this year’s honored performers include the famous hip-hop duo OutKast, pop icon Cyndi Lauper, and indie rock band The White Stripes.
Other names joining the Performer Category are Bad Company, known for their classic rock hits; Chubby Checker, who made "The Twist" a worldwide sensation; English singer Joe Cocker; and grunge legends Soundgarden.
Several more artists are being recognized through special awards. Salt-N-Pepa and Warren Zevon are being honored with the Musical Influence Award. The Musical Excellence Award is going to Thom Bell, Nicky Hopkins, and Carol Kaye. Meanwhile, Lenny Waronker will receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award, named after one of Atlantic Records' founders.
John Sykes, chairman of the 'Rock & Roll Hall of Fame', shared in a statement that all the inductees had created their own unique sounds and styles, which made a deep impact on music and culture. He mentioned that their contributions helped shape the direction of Rock & Roll and inspired many generations of musicians.
The announcement was made during a special American Idol episode on ABC, hosted by Ryan Seacrest. The night featured the Top 14 contestants performing songs by past Hall of Fame inductees while America voted to eliminate two singers. For those who missed it, the episode will be available to stream on Hulu.
To qualify for induction, an artist or band must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years ago. It was noted that OutKast, Bad Company, Chubby Checker, and Joe Cocker were nominated for the first time. Meanwhile, Cyndi Lauper, The White Stripes, and Soundgarden had been nominated before.
Earlier this year, the Hall of Fame Foundation had announced the full list of nominees, which also included big names like Mariah Carey, Billy Idol, Joy Division/New Order, and Phish.
The 2025 'Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony' is scheduled for November 8. It will be held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Fans will be able to watch the event live on Disney+, with a special broadcast on ABC later, and it will also stream on Hulu the following day.
