Pierce Brosnan reveals his mentor asked him to deny playing 'James Bond' for THIS reason

Pierce Brosnan, who thrived in the entertainment industry after playing the iconic role of James Bond, revealed that his mentor wanted him to deny the offer, as he thought the cinema was ‘a bit below’ for the actor’s talents. However, the 72-year-old expressed that the role gave him ‘longevity’ in his career.

“Christopher [Fettes] wanted me doing obscure 19th-century plays, but my dream was always movies,” Brosnan said in an interview with The Guardian. Moreover, the mentor, who passed away last year at 94, was even shocked that the actor left the stage behind the cinema. However, Daniel Craig, the successor of Brosnan’s 007, returned to the theatre after leaving the role. “I was impressed that Daniel had the bottle to go back out there. I thought, ‘Why the he** didn’t I?’ You have to really want it, and I didn’t,” he responded.


Pierce Brosnan played the role of James Bond from 1995 to 2002. When he was asked whether the role was indeed beneath him, the ‘Die Another Day’ actor said, “It’s very kind of Christopher. But thank God for Bond. It’s given me longevity. It’s given me the world in many respects."

Previously, Pierce Brosnan opined that the succeeding 007 should be a British actor, now that Daniel Craig has stepped down from the role after the 2021 hit ‘No Time to Die,’ as per the report by The Telegram. Now that the creative control is taken over by Amazon MGM control from the long-time producers, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, many actors, including James Norton, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Theo James, Paul Mescal, Cillian Murphy, and Aidan Turner, have been rumored to have been linked to become Bond’s next lead, as per News18.

“It takes great courage for them to let go. They will still have a say in matters. I hope that handles the work and the character with dignity and imagination and respect,” Pierce Brosnan added.
